A Prayer for Staying Spiritually Centered

Gracious God, it seems that what most holds my attention are those things and people that I can see, touch, hear, and feel.

    What Are You Asking?

How can I live the life of faith?

By offering yourself to God. Ideally we do this day by day. But sometimes we can't. Sometimes it is just too difficult or we are too distracted by all that is going on around us. At those times, we ask God to be patient with us until we can get back to offering ourselves to God.

    What Saints Can Teach Us
    A Crowd

People misunderstand saints; they think of them as being nice people, good people, people who behave well and don't make mistakes. But saints aren't like that.

Saints are extremely human, and they are products of their cultures and times.

Not one of us fails to charge off the path and into the bramble bushes, sometimes quite frequently. Not one of us fails to get it wrong at least once a week and probably much more often than that.

But saints have shown us that there is the possibility of living Godwardly in this life, however imperfectly we do it. Saints are simply people who have chosen to point their lives in what they believe is God's direction, and there are enough lives pointed in the same direction that it begins to look like a long procession of people, all walking the same path, keeping each other company.

That's what we celebrate on All Saints' Day.

    Commend Yourself to God

Integrity is not about fairness. It is about living in the hands of God. What does that mean? If all you are called to do is to pick up a child who is hurt, then if you can join Jesus in commending yourself to God, you can also join Jesus in his vision of the completeness of his work. Our purpose on earth is not grand--not even if we become President. Our purpose is to commend ourselves humbly to God.

    David Bazan EP:
Fewer Moving Parts An Unlikely Prophet

Recently named one of the top 100 living songwriters by Paste magazine, David Bazan (formerly Pedro The Lion) has produced some of the most compelling musical narratives of hypocrisy, despair, and grace over the last decade.

He reminds us that art exists not only to tell us who we should be, but also to show us who we are.
